What thoughts come to mind when you think of Fall Cleaning? Personally, I think “Do I have to?” or “I don’t have time…” or maybe, “Why Fall cleaning when we already have Spring Cleaning?” With all the excuses that I’ve given myself of not wanting to do a closet cleanup, I’ve decided that I need to decide what stays and what goes.
Here are 3 Reason’s Why to Do a Fall Closet Cleanup:
Out with the Old & In with the New:
There’s always a part of my heart that wants to hold on to certain pieces that have reminded me of old memories. Like an old sweater that I wore back in college and the nostalgia that comes along with those memories. It can be difficult to let go, but in order to fill your space with more pieces, you have to make room and toss out a couple things that you haven’t worn in the past year or so.
My Tip: If you’re finding it hard to choose what goes – ask yourself “Am I really going to wear this” and “Would I wear it now?” If you answered “NO” to those two then it’s time to give it up.
Organization of Your Space
Sometimes when clutter begins to collect, it causes our space to feel “out of order”, right? Thankfully, after sorting through the “YES’s” and “NO’s”, you’re able to organize your closet better. Anytime I’ve done a cleanup purge, I feel so accomplished, I can actually find what I’m looking for, and I don’t feel like my room went through World War Disaster. It’s the best feeling when you can look around and say, “Hey, I did that? Nice!”
Donate to Those in Need or for a Cause
Now that you’ve sorted out the old clothes from your closet and have organized your closet to perfection, what do you do now? I like to donate my clothes to a local thrift store like Out of the Closet or if there’s a natural disaster, just like with Hurricane Irma, Harvey, or Maria, maybe consider donating clothes towards those affected by the storm. Here are some local non-profits that you can take advantage of:
