Last week, I went to see the new movie, “Black Panther” which stars Chadwick Baldwin, Lupita Nyong’o, Michael B. Jordan, & Danai Gurira, and it literally blew my mind! This is one of the first cast that is fully African American, a milestone that is huge for POC (People of Color). I wouldn’t want to ruin the movie for you, but it is a must see!
Because this was such a monumental premiere, I wanted to dress in a Black Panther inspired look. Now, I didn’t have any African-print motifs that I could just pull out of my closet. BUT I do have these amazing Sam Edelman snake print chelsea boots (here) that would work for an “African” theme.
I wore all black because 1.) I wanted to my shoes to be the highlight of my look. 2.) I wanted to channel the true “Black Panthers” an organization founded by Huey Newton and Bobby Seale in 1966. This organization fought against police brutality amongst the African American community and wore black berets and black leather jackets as they patrolled neighborhoods like Oakland & various cities alike.
